Terms of Use
Last updated: 6 October 2026
QuoteThat is a small app for sharing photos and the funny things the people around you say, inside private groups you create or are invited to. QuoteThat is run by an individual developer ("we", "us"). By creating an account or using QuoteThat, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
Who can use QuoteThat
You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. If you are under the age of majority where you live (18 in most places), you may only use QuoteThat with the permission and involvement of a parent or guardian, who agrees to these terms on your behalf and is responsible for your use of the app. QuoteThat is not directed at children under 13.
Your account
- You are responsible for keeping your password secure and for everything that happens under your account.
- You must give accurate information when signing up and keep one account per person.
- You can delete your account at any time from the Groups tab, under Account → Delete Account. Deletion is permanent and removes your profile, quotes, photos, and comments.
- Anyone with a group's invite code can join that group. You are responsible for who you share codes with.
Content you post
You keep ownership of the photos and text you post (“your content”). By posting, you give QuoteThat a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, back up, copy, resize, reformat, and display your content to the members of the groups you have joined, and to send notifications about it, in each case only as needed to operate and improve the app. This licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies in routine backups until they are overwritten, and copies that other members have already saved or shared, which we cannot control.
You promise that you own your content or have the right to post it, and that posting it does not break any law or anyone else's rights. Only post photos of people who are happy to be photographed and shared with your group, and do not post photos of children without their parent's or guardian's permission.
Other members of your group may see, screenshot, or share what you post. Do not post anything you would not be comfortable with your group seeing.
Zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive behavior
- QuoteThat has zero tolerance for objectionable content or abusive users.
- Content that violates this policy is removed and the accounts responsible are terminated.
You agree not to post, upload, or share content that is:
- Harassing, bullying, threatening, or intended to humiliate someone
- Hateful or discriminatory toward any person or group
- Sexually explicit, pornographic, or sexualizing a minor in any way
- Violent, gory, or promoting self-harm
- Illegal, or promoting illegal activity
- Spam, scams, or deliberately misleading
- Someone else's private information shared without their consent
- Content you do not have the right to post
You also agree not to try to break, overload, or reverse-engineer the app, access other people's accounts or data, use automated tools to access the app, or use the app to harm anyone.
Reporting and blocking
Every quote and comment posted by another person has a menu (the … button) with two options:
- Report — flags the content for review.
- Block — immediately hides all quotes and comments from that person, everywhere in the app.
We aim to review reports within 24 hours. Content found to violate these terms is removed, and the account that posted it is terminated. You can also email us directly at jacobbkroll@gmail.com. If someone is in immediate danger, contact local emergency services; QuoteThat is not monitored in real time and is not an emergency service.
We do not control user content
Content in QuoteThat is posted by users, not by us. We do not review content before it is posted, and we do not endorse or guarantee the accuracy, legality, or safety of anything users post. We may, but are not obliged to, remove content or restrict accounts at our discretion. You are solely responsible for your content and for your interactions with other users.
Copyright complaints
If you believe content on QuoteThat infringes your copyright, email jacobbkroll@gmail.com with: a description of the work; where the content appears in the app; your name and contact details; a statement that you believe in good faith that the use is not authorized; and a statement, under penalty of perjury, that your notice is accurate and that you are the owner or authorized to act for the owner. We will remove infringing content and may terminate the accounts of repeat infringers. If your content was removed by mistake, you may send us a counter-notice at the same address.
Ending your access
We may suspend or terminate an account that breaks these terms, without notice. We may also change or discontinue the app at any time. You may stop using QuoteThat and delete your account at any time.
The app is provided as-is
QuoteThat is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not guarantee the app will always be available, secure, or error-free, or that content will never be lost. Please keep your own copies of photos you care about.
Limit on our liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of data, content, or profits, arising from your use of the app or from content posted by other users. Our total liability to you for any claim related to the app will not exceed the greater of US$50 or the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Some places do not allow these limits, so they may not apply to you in full.
Your responsibility to us
You agree to defend and reimburse us for claims, losses, and costs (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your content, your breach of these terms, or your violation of anyone else's rights, to the extent permitted by law.
Resolving disputes
Talk to us first. If you have a problem, email jacobbkroll@gmail.com and give us 30 days to try to fix it informally before starting any formal claim.
Binding individual arbitration. If we cannot resolve a dispute informally, you and we agree to resolve any dispute, claim, or controversy arising out of or relating to these terms or QuoteThat through final, binding arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association (AAA) under its Consumer Arbitration Rules, instead of in court before a judge or jury. The arbitrator may award the same individual relief a court could. You may bring a claim in small-claims court instead if it qualifies. Either of us may go to court to stop infringement or misuse of intellectual property.
No class actions. To the fullest extent permitted by law, you and we may bring claims only on an individual basis, and not as a plaintiff or class member in any class, collective, or representative action. The arbitrator may not combine more than one person's claims.
Opt out. You may opt out of this arbitration clause and class-action waiver by emailing jacobbkroll@gmail.com within 30 days of first accepting these terms, with the subject “Arbitration opt-out” and the email address of your account. If you opt out, disputes will be decided in the courts described below.
Governing law. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Utah and applicable US federal law, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Subject to the arbitration clause above, the state and federal courts located in Utah have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute, and you agree to that jurisdiction. If you are a consumer in another country, you keep any mandatory consumer rights you have under your local law.
If any part of this section is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect, except that if the class-action waiver is found unenforceable, the arbitration clause will not apply to that claim.
Apple
These terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple has no obligation to provide support or maintenance for QuoteThat and is not responsible for any claims about it. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you. You confirm you are not located in a country under a US government embargo and are not on a US government list of prohibited parties.
Changes
We may update these terms. If we make a significant change, we will update the date at the top of this page and, where practical, tell you in the app. Continuing to use QuoteThat after a change means you accept the updated terms. If you do not accept them, delete your account.
General
These terms, together with our Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and us about QuoteThat. If part of them is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. Our not enforcing a right is not a waiver of it. You may not transfer your account or these terms to anyone else; we may transfer ours.
